Eureka, a brief review so far.

With the exception of the last season I think it’s fair to say that Eureka’s plot has been weaker than a nuns piss. Now, I’m not saying that the program was bad, just that its main attraction was providing nerds with a false hope of being transported to a secret government town because there just so fucking smart.

The show focuses on Sheriff Carter who looks strangely like a young, square faced dick van dyke. From what I gather, the program follows the standard format of any cop show (with a little added techno-babble and flashing lights). Picture any episode of Starsky and Hutch, chuck in a killer robot, a town full of geniuses and a misunderstood villain and HEY PRESTO! The result is so similar you could use it to trick even the most dedicated of Eureka fans.

As to not mess with the secret formula of almost every American TV show, EVER! Eureka features the classically annoying 'will they, won't they' relationship that after five episodes has viewers ready to scratch out there eyes with a rusty nail. Despite her weasel like face and pessimistic attitude, Alison Blake is supposed to be the beautiful, kind and intelligent girl that Sheriff Carter lusts over. Unfortunately for him she was married to Nathan Stark, a man who (for no over reason than the show’s writers are just too damn lazy to include a proper one) has become an undeserving villain inclusive of a tendency to rise from the dead.

Eureka’s hub for techno jargon is Global Dynamics, a company that’s main building makes the Starship voyager look about as advanced as the hole they found Saddam Hussein in. A standard episode of the show would feature a scientist at Global Dynamics causing all kinds of mayhem to benefit themself in some small, insignificant and totally unrealistic way.

I wish I could tell you who plays what part in the show but the character’s roles change more often than the daily mail publishes an article with racist undertones.

The latest season however has, to my shock, succeeded in mixing things up a little. Carter and Alison finally get together, obviously there are complications, but I suppose the writers do need something to do. We also get to see Eureka when it was first founded courtesy of Einstein (nothing to get over excited about, it looks more like a refugee camp than the start of a secret town for smart asses).

Although it doesn't sound like it Eureka is one of my favourite TV shows. It may not be the most complex thing on TV but it is fun and occasionally offers an interesting story focused around bizarre characters, the Sci-Fi equivalent of going down the pub with your mates.

The new season started yesterday (12 July) in the USA and for those of us who are English: I recommend any of the Putlocker links from letmewatchthis.ch

Doctor Who will NOT be back for a full season in 2012.

BBC1 will not show a full series of Doctor Who in 2012 because of showrunner Steven Moffat's writing commitments with Sherlock. This news was confirmed by channel controller Danny Cohen.
This came as a shock to me as just last month the BBC confirmed that 14 new Doctor Who episodes had been commissioned. But what they didn't say was that not all of the commissioned episodes would be shown in 2012. Apparently they plan to split the commissioned episodes between 2012 and 2013 so that they 'can have more time to focus on the doctors 50th birthday' (in 2013). How much time do they need? If this Moffat guy wants to run around the BBC doing two jobs, that's his business. But allowing the inferior job to take priority away from superior one, that's just unforgivable.

Popular excuses for this outrage include:
"He [Moffat] needs enough time to get that [Sherlock] done and then start work on the next series of Doctor Who,"
"Steven Moffat is the creative driving force behind Doctor Who. He also, rather magically at the same time, created and got to air Sherlock. So we have to get that balance right."

I think I speak for everyone when I say: SCREW SHERLOCK!! Yeah its an ok show but it's not worth sacrificing half a series of alien fighting, world saving Doctor madness.

I lost my heart to a starship trooper.

This music video by hot gossip is in my opinion massively underrated. Yes it's cheesy, Yes the extremely repetitive chorus is a tad annoying and Yes it brutally smacks together sci-fi characters in a way that can only be described as unholy. I mean seriously, when has it ever been acceptable to use Darth Vader and Flash Gordon in the same sentence? However, there is something about this video that makes me feel all tingly and excited. Maybe its the way that the overly dramatic intro quickly switches to a shot of synchronised disco dancing, or maybe its the over use of glitter, smoke and all round cheese, either way I couldn't imagine my life without it. Oh, and also: in what bizarre universe/ timeline/ dream would Darth Vader be banished to Mars?

Why you need to watch Chuck.

Chuck season 5 is a go! But don't get too happy, both season's 3 and 4 had truly horrific ratings in fact the only thing that saved the programme from cancellation after season 2 (and my sanity) was a commercial tie-in with subway. Thirteen episodes of the new season have been planned and it is assumed that a further nine will follow if things go well. Unfortunately NBC has realised a statement saying that season 5 will include the programmes finally. I urge the few of you who actually read this blog to watch the show, not just to help ensure the realise of the final nine episodes but also because its an enjoyable engaging show that actually does offer something for everybody. Romance, action, comedy, drama, gadgets, you name it Chucks got it.

The release date of the final season has yet to be confirmed, I will keep you posted as I find out more.

Marvel vs. DC, superhero war.

Ok, so I was talking to a few people about Marvel and DC and somehow got into a conversation on who would win the ultimate superhero war. I would like to say the following was from my brain but its wasn't.

"Marvel would win the ultimate war as they have the xmen and i think they would win soley on the larger number. there would be alot of casualties as superman would nail loads of them but then jean grey would float up some cyrptonite all up in his grill and then the rest would own him. batman would die really quickly becuase hes just a bloke really and hes used to fighting other people, not supernatural. However he would provide the financial capital for the DC army to opertate or w.e"

I couldn't have put it better myself (well I would have worded it better but she had no idea I was going to post this). If you disagree with this prediction you can leave a comment or alternatively you could re-evaluate your life as your clearly wrong.
